HOW TO FIND US

Starting a new job

CITYside Recruitment

Day 1 of your new job, how exciting!

If anything, the impression you make on your first day is even more important than the impression you made in your interview. In just the same way that you took the care to prepare properly for the interview, you should ensure that you are fit and healthy, clean and appropriately dressed for the rigours of the day ahead. Yes, this is obvious, but the obvious often gets overlooked.

Remember what you were told during the interview about the duties you are there to perform. Equally, try to bear in mind that no two people will do something exactly the same way. Therefore, the ‘job description’ can be open to a degree of interpretation. That is to say that some of the skills required may come very easily to you, others perhaps will require a bit more effort on your part. Over time, the ‘job description’ will flex to accommodate the way you do things. This is a natural process. The important thing to remember is that you are there to enhance the organisation. Always try to embrace the ‘bigger picture’, ask yourself, “is what I’m doing adding value?” However, your employer expects you to fulfil certain functions, so you must ensure that you satisfy those criteria.

You may feel a little nervous about starting your new job, quite possibly the other members of staff will feel a bit nervous at the prospect of someone new joining the team as well. We’re all human. When you think about how much time you spend at work, you will appreciate that what you are embarking on is a whole new opportunity to gain friends and share great experiences.
